The TV Week in Review May 1 - May 7

With the season finale of most shows right around the corner, these shows are heating up.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition/How’d They Do That?- The Dolan Family

Jamie Dolan, husband and father of three, takes a second job at an electronics store to help put some money away for his kids’ future. A man walks in and starts shooting. This random act of violence leaves two people dead, and Jamie Dolan shot in the head and dying. Due to the courageous efforts of the EMTs, Jamie survives but has lost sight in both his eyes. His home is not even remotely set up for someone who has just become blind. It’s the Design Team to the rescue!

I once read somewhere (TV Guide I think), that they thought people were going to get bored with Sunday night and another hour on Monday for the “How’d They do That?” show, which shows you some behind the scenes footage that we don’t get on the Sunday night show.

Sunday’s show was two hours, and worth every moment. A great transformation for a guy that needs a little help. Once again the build what seems like a mansion. The cool thing about this house is that they used different textures on all the walls so that Jamie knows where he is in the house. This will help his independence greatly. Water features and wind chimes help him outside to find his way around outside.

Does this episode warrant three hours including the Monday night show? You betcha. A great family and a great 3 hours. I had the box of tissues handy for this one.

Desperate Housewives- Fear No More

Gabby learns that Carlos has messed with her birth control pills and that she is pregnant. Carlos couldn’t be happier, but Gabby on the other hand is rather upset, well, for one she and Carlos had agreed on not having kids, and two, because she has slept with John. Who’s kid is it? We might find out, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this is a pregnancy that is going to have a tragic end. I could be way off here, but I think we look for an accident (possibly car or stairs, you pick) and Gabby looses the baby.

Bree is another story all together. George the pharmacist is still attracted to Bree, and Rex definitely can see it. If I were him, I would have switched drug stores already. Bree is a smart woman, but why she continues to be so naïve about George’s affection is beyond me. She is going to get burned by her decision to continue the relationship. Maybe she doesn’t want to know…

CSI: Miami- Recoil

Good episode. The search for Horatio’s dead brother continues as we head toward the season finale. I really didn’t see this one coming.

Smallville- Ageless

Great episode, even though I don’t know how it falls into the whole scheme of the season. It was a real tearjerker seeing Lana and Clark be so maternal and loving to this child they found in Evan’s Field. When Evan goes through his last change, the energy he emits causes a huge explosion. Clark sends Lana away, but Clark stays with the boy till the end (obviously the explosion isn’t going to hurt him). This would have been a great time to let Lana in on his little secret.

The real highlight is the news that there is going to be a 90-minute season finale and a 8-minute preview of Batman Begins.

Lost- The Greater Good

Shannon looks for revenge as she grieves for Boone. Sayid gives Locke a once over, being a former interrogator for the Iraqi Republican Guard, and his BS detector is working overtime. Sayid gives him the thumbs up once he shows him the plane that he and Boone found. Shannon tries to shoot Locke but Sayid intervenes. Sure, she’ll be ticked at him for awhile, but she’ll get over it. We get a look into Sayid past and the tragic suicide of his former roommate.

The hatch is going to soon be revealed to all. Lost is probably the best new show this year. The finale is supposed to be emotionally satisfying, yet will leave a big cliffhanger for next season.

What am I going to do this summer? I see a Netflix membership coming on.

Alias- Mirage

Syd comes to Big Daddy Jack’s rescue, a good think too. It was kinda creepy that she had to impersonate her mother to help her delusional father tell her the location of the only doctor that can save his life.

And it a good thing they did, because the news out today is that Jen is pregnant with Baby Aflac (spelling intentional). That is going to put a cramp in her martial arts moves and skimpy clothing. Could this be the end of Alias?

CSI: NY- On the Job

CSI number three continues to impress.

Just when you thought CSI’s dumbest detective, Danny Messer, couldn’t get any more boneheaded, he does. Not only is he a lousy shot, he directly disobeyed Mac’s order not to talk because he felt nobody “had his back on this one”. Mac definitely had his back, and better yet evidence and a plan.

Idiot! Mac should have thrown him to the wolves.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigations- Weeping Willows

Again another fantastic episode for the first and best CSI. Catherine goes looking for love in all the wrong places and gets entangled with a murder suspect, ironically enough played by her real life husband.

Her taste in men is horrible. Get her together with Warrick and call it good.

Numb3rs- Noisy Edge

The Eppes brothers encounter a UFO. Is it a being from another planet or some sort of new prototype? Charlie crunches the numbers to find out.

Charlie also finds out that his adorable assistant Amita, is going to change her major, meaning he won't be her advisor anymore, meaning that the romance is a go. Let’s hope Charlie is smart enough to figure out the repercussions of her news and make a move. I think he actually got it.

Great show. I love seeing the math work. The relationship between the Eppes family is great to watch, as well. Great job casting. Who’d a guess Judd Hirsch would be so great as Daddy Eppes?
